Peri-implant tissues
Peri-implant tissue inflammation (mucositis and peri-implantitis) is a growing problem in implantology. As a periodontist, I specialise in diagnosing and treating these conditions that threaten long-term implant survival.
Mucositis is a reversible inflammation of the mucosa around an implant. Peri-implantitis is an advanced inflammatory condition with loss of bone supporting the implant. Early diagnosis is crucial for implant preservation.
Therapy includes implant surface decontamination, conservative treatment, and — in advanced cases — regenerative surgery using bone substitute biomaterials and collagen membranes.
Regular check-ups, professional hygiene maintenance, and an individualised preventive programme are the foundation of long-term implant treatment success.
